Introduction
Welcome to the artistic/creative theme day at Rysensteen Gymnasium.
Today is about how to meet an audience. The music classes and drama classes are given the opportunity to learn about performing and how to approach an audience. At the beginning the students were given an introduction on how to meet an audience by Sigurd Barrett who is an expert in performance. He has played music and concerts all of his life and made children's television with a music and acting focus. Sigurd told us about his experiences with the different crowds he had met in his career and how to handle and include the audience in front of you. He explained the importance of being aware of what kind of audience you want to entertain, and how to reach them in different situations.
By the end of the day the students have to perform in a co-operation between class profiles; a small act showing a myth of the Nordic mythology from one of Sigurd Barett's books consisting of both acting and music.

TV Legend Sigurd Barrett Visits Rysensteen Gymnasium - interview
The creative students at Rysensteen Gymnasium were met Wednesday morning by the sound of jazz piano-playing TV legend Sigurd Barrett. This year’s artistic theme day was hereby launched. Go Creative Today were able to catch the entertainer after his performance.
How was it to speak to the high school students at Rysensteen Gymnasium?
S: “I think it was very nice to be here and I think the spirit about performing was very good. I felt a big interest. It wasn’t hard at all to reach the audience because they were positive minded.”
What are your thoughts about the theme day?
S: “I think it’s a very cool thing to do. It’s always good to interrupt the daily education routine, and make a theme day where you play instruments and theater, and in general to do something different. It’s important because it is very good to work with new people, across year, groups and classes”.
Could it be relevant with a theme day similar to this, for students without music and drama?
S: Yes it most certainly could. It is very important to learn how to act in small as well as big gatherings. It can be very scary for some people just to stand up in front of a crowd. You can learn how to develop your abilities which can be used both in your private life and at work or school.
What is today’s message?
To meet an audience is most importantly about finding out who your audience is, what you want to do and how to reach the audience with it. There are different ways to do this. It is about being reliable and having knowledge about reaching the crowd. You need to respect your audience and make sure an interaction is created between you and your crowd. Afterwards you should have the feeling of a mutual experience with your crowd.
Hopefully the students at Rysensteen Gymnasium can live up to Barrett’s idea later today...
